Area senior-care providers receive FY16 allocations

Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging allocates $1.33M in fed, state funds

The Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging has announced its allocation of more than $1.33 million in federal and state funds to 14 providers of services primarily to senior citizens in Shawnee, Douglas and Jefferson counties.

The allocations are for federal fiscal year 2016, which begins Oct. 1, 2015, agency officials said Friday in a news release announcing the distributions.

Allocations are determined after the agency’s Allocations Committee hears proposals from prospective providers. The committee’s recommendations are forwarded to the JAAA’s Advisory Council, which forwards its recommendations to the agency’s Board of Directors for final approval.

Most of the agencies funded provide services to seniors in multiple counties, though some are county or community specific.
